Firestarter, the classic story by Stephen King, will be getting the reboot treatment. This time, Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman will be helming the project. The announcement was made by Goldsman and Blumhouse's Jason Blum while they attended the Overlook Film Festival.  

The original 1984 film starred Drew Barrymore as a young girl who has pyrokinetic abilities and is kidnapped by a secret government agency to use her abilities as a weapon.

The film will be written by Scott Teems, and Blum will produce through his Blumhouse banner. Martha de Laurentiis, who worked on the original, will executive produce. Universal will also be involved in the project, as they were the ones who released the original. 

King's The Dark Tower is also getting released this summer, to much anticipation.
