Netflix Announces 80 Original Films for 2018
Netflix has announced that they are expecting to release around 80 original films in 2018. This seems like an ambitious amount, but Netflix has had great success with their originals and will most likely be able to accomplish whatever it is they set out to do.

"They range anywhere from the million-dollar Sundance hit, all the way up to something on a much larger scale," said Ted Sarandos in an investors' interview on Monday.

Sarandos also commented on their upcoming big budget ($90 million) release, "Bright", which stars Will Smith and will be released on December 22. "I think people will start seeing the potential for this original movie initiative, that it could be done on the enormous scale we have on the television side."

Another big name heading to Netflix Originals is Martin Scorsese, who is currently working on a gangster film, "The Irishman", starring Robert DeNiro. The film has a $100 million budget.

During the interview, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings spoke about how they would not be buying the troubled Weinstein Company, which has been rocked by the sexual harassment allegations involving Harvey Weinstein.

"It would be extremely unlikely for us to be a bidder for the firm", said Hastings.

Netflix has about 50 films that have already been released or are slated for release this year.
