Veronica Mars Kickstarter Campaign Shatters Records
"Veronica Mars", the UPN-CW cult series that starred Kristen Bell, will be finally be getting a big screen adaptation.

Series creator Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell launched a Kickstarter campaign for the project yesterday, breaking all sorts of donation records. After only four and a half hours into the campaign, the project earned $1 million, making it the fastest to hit that number in Kickstarter history.  The goal of $2 million was quickly reached by yesterday evening, breaking yet another record, and soaring past its goal.

Project updates yesterday went as follows:

Project Update #1: Wow and Thank You.

Holy cow, what a day. As of 4 a.m. CT, we're just over $2.5M dollars. We couldn't be happier. We really couldn't. My wife says I'm insufferable, but she said that four days ago in anticipation of a day like today.

A couple important announcements. First, please know we are trying to make international donations a possibility. We are running into a couple thorny issues, but we want it to happen. It might take a week or two before we have an answer, but keep checking back. Know that we hear you, and we're trying our best.

We can't believe we've topped out on so many of our bigger reward packages. We're working on coming up with some new high end rewards. This might also take a few days, but more will appear.

Lastly, thousands of questions have come in through the Kickstarter site. We're making our way through them. They will all get answered, but it may take a few days. A lot of them are real stumpers.

Thank you so much,

Rob

Project Update #2: Records of note

By the way, yesterday we set a few records.

We were the fastest Kickstarter project to hit $1M. We were the fastest Kickstarter project to hit $2M. We set the record for highest goal ever achieved. (Other KS projects have done better than us -- so far -- but none set a goal as high as our $2M goal.) We're also the largest film project in Kickstarter history.

Cannot thank everyone enough.

This will certainly set a precedent about how filmmakers go about getting their projects noticed and jump-started. Thomas said,  "Kristen and I met with the Warner Bros brass, and they agreed to allow us to take this shot", Thomas wrote on the fundraising page. "They were extremely cool about it, as a matter of fact. Their reaction was, if you can show there's enough fan interest to warrant a movie, we're on board".
