Torn, whose career spanned over seven decades, was also an accomplished theater actor, appearing on Broadway 10 times, including Tennessee Williams' "Sweet Bird of Youth" in 1959, for which he earned a Tony Award Nomination. He was also nominated for an Academy Award in 1983 for best supporting actor in "Cross Creek".
"The Larry Sanders Show" was a huge role for Torn, and earned him 6 Emmy nominations and one win for best-supporting actor in a comedy series. In 1997, the actor starred in "Men In Black" alongside Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.
Torn is survived by his wife, Amy Wright, six children, and four grandchildren. He passed with his family by his side in his Lakeville, CT home.
