Kenneth Branagh Breaks An Oscar Record Today

Belfast launches Kenneth Branagh into the record books.  Branagh has become the first person in history to be nominated in seven Oscar categories.  Branagh finds himself in a distinct class joining George Clooney and Warren Beatty as the only people to have received nominations in every eligible major category.

"It's a long way from the streets of Belfast to the Academy Awards," said Branagh.

Belfast is a semi-autobiographical film that chronicles the life of a working-class family and their young son's childhood during the tumultuous time in the late 1960s in the Northern Ireland capital.

Ciaran Hinds, nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Belfast said, "Having worked in this industry for nearly 50 years, I thought there wasn't much that could surprise me still.  Today, I can honestly say, I am astounded, thrilled, and deeply grateful."

Belfast is nominated for Best Directing, Original Screenplay, Best Picture, Actress in a Supporting Role, Actor in a Supporting Role, Original Song, and Sound.

The Oscars take place on March 27.
