Director Joel Schumacher Dies at 80

Veteran director Joel Schumacher has died after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 80 years old. 

The director was born in New York City on  August 29, 1939. He began his career in New York and wrote the comedy Car Wash in 1976.  He went on to write the Broadway musical adaptations The Wiz in 1978 and The Phantom of the Opera in 2004. 

Schumacher's other films include Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, A Time to Kill, The Lost Boys, St. Elmo's Fire, Flatliners, The Client, Flawless, Phone Booth, Trespass and Falling Down. He also directed two episodes of Netflix's House of Cards.
